Mumbai:
The investigating officer (IO) in the Best Bakery carnage case yesterday (Apr 27, 2005) told the special court that he had sent the copy of the FIR to the magistrate on March 3, 2002 but had no proof to show this.
IO H G Baria told the special court, conducting the Best Bakery re-trial, during his cross-examination that he sent the copy of the FIR on March 3, however, on the same day the courts were closed due to curfew in Vadodara and only one magistrate was working in the circuit house, where he sent the copy.
Baria was also questioned about the cassette, which was taken when the bakery was burning and also about the injured who were taken to the hospital after the riots.
His cross-examination before special Judge Abhay Thipsay remained inconclusive and would continue today (Apr 28, 2005).
The special court in Mumbai is conducting the re-trial in the case following a Supreme Court directive to hold it in Maharashtra. Fourteen persons were killed in the attack on the Best bakery at Vadodara on March 1, 2002.
