Telephone tapping reports factually incorrect: Govt Thursday, April 28 2005 12:57 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Government in Lok Sabha today (Apr 28, 2005) described as "factually incorrect" reports that telephones of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and some other Ministers were being tapped.
"After we learnt about the reports today, we made very careful oral enquiries to collect information. This is factually incorrect," Home Minister Shivraj Patil said when the matter was raised in the House by Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Ramji Lal Suman.
Suman said phones of the Chief Minister and some other senior leaders in the State were being tapped. Speaker Somnath Chatterjee asked the Government to respond.
"As long as I am there in the Chair, I will see that such matters do not take place in the country except in accordance with the law," the Speaker said.
The Home Minister said since the matter was brought to his notice this morning itself, he made oral enquiries but would collect more information in writing.
He said the Union Home Secretary or the State Chief Secretary could get information in this regard.
