BJP not silent over Uma Bharti issue, says Swaraj
Friday, April 29 2005 18:40 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Bhopal: Claiming that BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) has "not been silent" over developments related to Uma Bharti, senior leader and former Union Minister Sushma Swaraj today (Apr 29, 2005) said a letter by the firebrand leader has been received by the party president L K Advani and he was deciding on it.

"(BJP in) Delhi has not been silent. A letter by her (Bharti) has been received by Advaniji and the national president is taking a decision on it," she said in reply to a reporters query at Shahganj near Bhopal.

On whether Bharti would stage a return in a big way, Swaraj said, "Advaniji would tell you about it."

In the letter to Advani, Bharti was reported to have expressed faith in party leadership and claimed that media had presented her recent statements about the party at Amarkantak in a "distorted manner".

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference in Bhopal, BJP vice-president Venkaiah Naidu declined to comment on Bharti's statements at Amarkantak.

Asked why Bharti was not invited to the two functions - one for laying the foundation stone for Narmada river water project and another on women's self-help group, Naidu said "it is not a big thing. Different leaders are invited to different functions".

The BJP leader also declined to make any observation on the status and role of Bharti in BJP saying such things are not discussed in press briefings.
