Govt for new route for Kailash-Mansarovar yatra

New Delhi: Government has proposed to the Chinese side to open an alternative route to Kailash and Mansarovar through Demchok, which has better connectivity in terms of road infrastructure, the Rajya Sabha was informed yesterday (Apr 28, 2005).

Government has initiated steps to develop a road upto the Lipulekh Pass on the Indian side for the pilgrimage, Minister of State for External Affairs E Ahamed said in a written reply.

He said deep religious sentiments of the people of India associated with Kailash and Mansarovar have been conveyed, from time to time, to the Chinese authorities who are responsible for the protection and conservation of these holy places.
