Friday, April 29 2005 11:29 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Ranchi: Railway Minister Laloo Yadav would have to appear in another CBI special court in Ranchi on May 17, which would frame charges in the RC 38 (a)/96 case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 3.31 crore from Dumka treasury.

The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo on Monday (Apr 25, 2005) had to appear before the CBI special court of Uma Shankar Prasad Sinha, which framed charges against him in the RC 68/96 case pertaining to fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 37 crore from Chaibasa treasury.

CBI special judge Sanjay Prasad who on Wednesday (Apr 27, 2005) dismissed Laloo's discharge petition, asked his lawyer for personal appearance of his client on that day when charges would be framed against the RJD supremo in the RC 38 (a)/96 case.

Besides Laloo, there are 40 other accused against whom charges would be framed. Former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra is one of them, CBI special public prosecutor Rakesh Prasad said in Ranchi.

Both the treasuries are retained in Jharkhand after the State was carved out from Bihar on November 15, 2000.

Thirty-nine out of the 61 cases in the Rs 950 crore fodder scam, which was unearthed in 1996, were transferred to Jharkhand.
