Mumbai: The investigating officer (IO) in the Best Bakery case today (May 2, 2005) denied a defence suggestion that he had concocted a false story about the riots at bakery at Vadodara in Gujarat in 2002.

IO H G Baria, during his cross examination in a special court in Mumbai, also denied the charge of the defence that he had come up with frivolous names of the accused on March 4, 2002 just to show that there was progress in the investigations.

His cross examination before special judge Abhay Thipsay remained inconclusive today and would continue tomorrow.

The special court in Mumbai is conducting the re-trial in the case following a Supreme Court directive to hold it in Maharashtra.

Fourteen persons were killed in the attack on the Best Bakery at Vadodara on March 1, 2002 during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.
