Jammu-Srinagar National Highway closed for 2nd day

Jammu: Over 1,300 vehicles were stranded as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the second day today (May 3, 2005), official sources said.

The men and machines of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) were working round-the-clock to clear the mud and landslide blockades at Ramban and Kelay Morh on the 300 km-long highway, they said.

The highway was closed yesterday (May 2, 2005) following flash floods and landslides at Ramban and Kelay Morh area, where a three-storied hotel was washed away. Over 40 persons were, however, rescued by police, they said.

Efforts were being made to clear the blockades by evening the sources said adding that over 1,300 vehicles were stranded at various places along the highway.
