Jammu:
Six Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) militants were shot dead by Army troops when they tried to sneak into the Indian Territory in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said in Jammu today (May 3, 2005).
A large group of militants attempted to infiltrate from Nagni-Balnoie mountain range in the Krishna Ghati belt of the district around 23:50 hrs (IST) last night (May 2, 2005), they said.
The alert jawans, who had put up nakas in the area following specific information about the infiltration bid, challenged the militants, leading to heavy exchange of fire between the two sides which continued for over five hours, they added.
Six bodies of the LeT militants were found 100 metres inside the Indian Territory, the sources said, adding other militants failed to enter the country and escaped back.
The weapons recovered included 6 AK rifles, 1 Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL), 11 UBGL grenades, 27 AK rifle magazines, 8 Pakistani grenades and 17 Chinese grenades, they said.
This is the fourth infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control (LoC) since April 26 wherein 22 ultras have been gunned down in Poonch and Kupwara districts of the State.
