New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam will dedicate to the nation tomorrow (May 4, 2005) the second launch pad at Sriharikota from where two satellites would be launched on May 5.

Scientists at the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) there will also brief him on the launch of the satellites - CARTOSAT-I and HAMSAT - aboard the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) from the newly-built pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, a Rashtrapati Bhawan spokesman said today (May 3, 2005).

CARTOSAT-I is the country's new remote sensing satellite, which will be used for imaging and mapping with high resolution stereoscopic cameras while HAMSAT will provide a unique opportunity for amateur radio operators who can provide useful service in remote areas during disasters or emergency situation.

The President would later be visiting Andaman and Nicobar Island, which was hit by killer Tsunami on December 26 last year (2004). During his visit, Kalam would acquaint himself with the long-term rehabilitation plans for those affected by the Tsunami disaster and interact with officials on these plans.

Upon his arrival at Port Blair, the President will interact with school and college children and also visit the Cellular jail.
