Bihar submits report to Centre on flood relief scam Wednesday, May 4 2005 09:00 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Patna/New Delhi:
The Bihar Government has submitted to the Centre its report on the multi-crore flood-relief scam, hinting at filing of FIRs against offenders once the Vigilance inquiry was completed in the case.
When contacted, Bihar Chief Secretary K A H Subramanian told sources that the report had been submitted to the Union Home Ministry, Prime Minister's Office (PMO) and principle secretary in the PMO.
However, he declined to divulge the content of the report.
Official sources in Delhi said the report detailed about the diversion of funds meant for flood relief in North Bihar last year.
The report is understood to have said the State relief department had allotted Rs 13.48 crore to Gautam Goswami, the then District Magistrate of Patna, for relief work but the payment of more than Rs 17 crore was made to a firm, which is allegedly fake.
Goswami allegedly diverted another Rs 5 crore meant for acquisition of railway land and other welfare schemes without the prior sanction of the chief secretary for relief operations.
The report said a vigilance inquiry had been launched and the guilty would be booked once it was over, the sources said.
