A local court in Vadodara yesterday (May 3, 2005) remanded to judicial custody three linesmen, who were arrested on charges of gross negligence in connection with Sabarmati train mishap at Samalaya on April 21 in which 17 persons were killed and over 100 injured.
Balwant Singh, Budha Puna and Jaising Lalbhai Vasava were remanded to judicial custody after the end of their seven-day police remand.
The acting station master Ramesh Vankar, also arrested in connection with the mishap, is already under judicial custody after his three-day police remand ended on April 29.
All of them have been arrested under sections 302 (punishment for murder), 304 (a) (causing death by negligence), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
