Govt ready to discuss all issues on floor of House
Thursday, May 5 2005 12:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Making a fresh appeal to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to end its boycott of Parliament, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today (May 5, 2005) said the Government was ready to discuss all issues on the floor of the House.

"I again appeal to leaders of the Opposition (in the two Houses)" to join the proceedings, the Prime Minister said in the Rajya Sabha.

"This Government is ready to discuss all issues and there is no issue which is barred from discussion," he said.

Taking exception to certain observations made by the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at the beginning of the Question Hour, he said disturbances in the proceedings of the House in the last few days had caused "great dismay" to him and to the Government.

The Prime Minister said as soon as the NDA had announced its decision to boycott Parliament, he rang up leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L K Advani, leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Jaswant Singh and NDA chairman Atal Bihari Vajpayee and requested them that "let us end this chapter and all issues can be discussed on the floor".

He said he was promised by one of the three key leaders that the NDA would participate in the proceedings for passage of the Finance Bill and later take a decision on the future course of action.

On NDA's memorandum to President A P J Abdul Kalam, the Prime Minister said, "Absolutely false things have been stated" in it.

In the memorandum, the Government has been accused of taking certain steps to prevent Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf from seeing Vajpayee, he said.

"This is totally false," the Prime Minister said.
