Stamp scam: Custody of Telgi, 59 accused extended

Pune: The judicial custody of prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam, Abdul Karim Telgi, and 59 other accused was today (May 5, 2005) extended till June 8, by the special Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) court.

No accused was produced in the court, which has now begun hearing the case through video-conferencing, since last one month.

Additional Sessions Judge P B Birjajdar, presiding over the court in the absence of Special Judge S M Shembole, who is on leave, adjourned the hearing on the Bund Garden case to June 8 and listed the fake stamp paper cases registered at Nasik and Thane for May 9.

Four accused in the Bund Garden case are on bail while one of them, a police sub-inspector, died in judicial custody a couple of months back.

Meanwhile, Shembole has been transferred to Jalna, as Additional Sessions Judge and is expected to hand over charge on May 16, court sources said.
