Chetak copter crashes near Chennai, three killed

Chennai: A Chetak helicopter of the Indian Navy crashed near Chennai this evening (May 6, 2005) killing all three crew members on board.

The helicopter crashed near the Naval air station of Arakonam, about 50 kms from Chennai at 16:00 hours (IST), according to a Naval spokesman in Chennai.

Lt Cdr D Poddar was flying the helicopter alongwith Sub Lt B Manoj and Naval Diver G Karla, all of whom were killed.

The helicopter crashed two km from the Naval air station in an inhabited area.

A court of inquiry has been ordered into the crash, the spokesman said.
