'PM's inability worsens deadlock in Par functioning'
Saturday, May 7 2005 16:02 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Mandla (Madhya Pradesh): Accusing Prime Minister Manmohan Singh of 'working' under 'power centres' in Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president L K Advani today (May 7, 2005) claimed Singh's "inability" to take independent decisions has worsened the deadlock in Parliament's functioning forcing National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to continue its boycott.

"In United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, the Prime Minister is not the supreme authority, as those in power within the Congress dictate terms and he cannot avoid heeding to the decisions imposed by them," Advani said during his day-long visit to the tribal-dominated and backward district headquarters in Mandla.

Asking the Government to honour the Opposition and its views, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha said that the NDA was firm in its resolve to continue its boycott of Parliament proceedings as "it is not receiving due respect from the ruling coalition though all Congress leaders don't show this behaviour."

Claiming that there were concrete moves to remove hurdles in the functioning of Parliament during a recent meeting senior BJP leader Jaswant Singh had with the Prime Minister, Advani alleged that Manmohan Singh reversed his stand the same evening despite having displayed a positive attitude if the morning discussion

"Deadlock over Parliament was almost resolve and the Prime Minister even favoured a common statement and a meeting with me and Vajpayeeji, but the same evening, after an internal meeting of Congress, he reversed his stand and his party men accused Opposition of behaving in a childish manner," Advani claimed.
