One arrested in Delhi University student rape case Tuesday, May 10 2005 14:55 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

The police finally managed to arrest one person for his alleged involvement in the rape of a college girl in New Delhi, police said on Monday (May 9, 2005).
"We have taken one person into custody based on descriptions provided by the victim," a police officer said.
The arrest comes about 30 hours after the rape case even as her friend had alerted the police within 15 minutes of abduction of the victim.
The girl was carried around in the car, drugged, raped for two hours, but the police could do nothing to prevent the incident. Even later, with clues in hand, the police managed one arrest after over 24 hours.
Speaking about the accused who has been arrested, the police said, "We are questioning him."
Raids are on in the Dhaula Kuan and Vasant Vihar neighbourhoods of the city and the satellite town of Gurgaon to trace the perpetrators, they add.
The victim was a student of the Sri Venkateshwara College and was staying as a paying guest in the adjacent Nanakpura colony.
The incident occurred at around 2.15 a.m. on Sunday (May 8, 2005) when the victim was walking back home with a friend after picking up food from a roadside eatery at Dhaula Kuan.
According to the police, four men in steel grey car forced the girl into the vehicle and raped her in the moving car for two hours before dumping her near the Nanakpura gurdwara.
The incident was the third such in the capital in the past 10 days.
