New Delhi: Centre has released to the State Governments a sum of Rs 2360.27 crore for the modernisation of police force during the last three years, Rajya Sabha was informed today (May 11, 2005).

Minister of State for Home Affairs Sriprakash Jaiswal said in a written reply that from 2003-04, the States affected by naxalite violence have been advised to give focussed attention to strengthen police infrastructure in the affected districts by including a sub-plan in their modernisation scheme.

In case of Uttar Pradesh, he said Rs 474 crore have been released by the Centre in the last five years beginning 2000-2001.

NHRC: He said that NHRC has registered as many as 3,029 complaints from the State of Punjab during the last three years beginning from 2002-03.

During this period, he said that the Commission had disposed off 1,328 complaints in limini and another 405 by passing appropriate order to the concerned authorities for disposal.

CBI: During the last three years and up to April, 2005, CBI has conducted searches against 10 IAS, four IPS and two IFS officers, he said.

TADA: As per the information furnished by CBI, 57 persons are in jails in pending TADA cases handled by the agency, Minister of state for Home S Regupathy said.

National Anthem: Minister of State for Home M H Gavit said Government has been receiving, from time to time, suggestions from various persons for deletion, addition etc of certain words in the National Anthem or even its complete substitution by some other composition.
