Anupam Kher to meet Kalam for cause of JK Pandits Thursday, May 12 2005 15:10 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Mumbai:
A delegation led by former Censor Board chief and actor Anupam Kher would meet President A P J Abdul Kalam in New Delhi tomorrow (May 13, 2005) to urge him take up the cause of Kashmiri Pandits for their return to the valley.
Disclosing this to the sources in Mumbai, Kher said he had written a letter to the President urging him to use his good offices with the Government to help Kashmiri Pandits in rehabilitation process in the valley as they had been "uprooted" from their homes.
Kher said, in response to his letter, Kalam had invited him to Rashtrapati Bhavan to discuss the issue and find out a solution to the vexed problem faced by Kashmiri Pandits.
Kher, who has just completed shooting of his Hindi film "Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara", said he welcomed the renewed relations between India and Pakistan but said he felt sad that both the Centre and the State Government had neglected the plight of Kashmiri Pandits.
The Government had totally forgotten their responsibility towards the Kashmiri Pandits some of whom are still languishing in refugee camps in Jammu and elsewhere and were eager to return to their homes in the valley, Kher said.
Kashmiri Pandits are a dignified and peace loving community and feel that they had been ignored completely, Kher said adding that he had taken the initiative to seek the intervention of the President to find out a solution to the problem.
