The Central Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) Review Committee has recommended to the Gujarat Government to confirm application of the anti-terrorist law on four cases.
The committee has also recommended removal of POTA on some of the accused persons in the cases, Advocate Ilyas Pathan, who represents some of the accused persons in the ISI conspiracy case, told sources in Ahmedabad yesterday (May 13, 2005).
While confirming the application of POTA on all the four cases, the committee recommended the removal of the law on 10 of the 52 accused persons in the ISI conspiracy case.
The committee also recommended that POTA was not applicable on one of the 17 accused persons in the tiffin bomb blast case, he said.
However, the committee said that POTA is applicable on all the seven persons in the Ashok Bhatt assassination conspiracy case and the two accused in the attempt to murder case involving Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader from Surat, Hasmukh Lalwala.
The review committee had recently recommended removing POTA on three of the 19 accused persons in the Haren Pandya murder case.
The three-member committee had made extensive visits to the city recently and reviewed all the 14 POTA cases including the Godhra train carnage case.
