Five of Farrukh Dhondy-scripted films at Cannes Sunday, May 15 2005 12:17 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
London:
Aamir Khan-starrer 'The Rising' and a post-9/11 political thriller 'Red Mercury' are among the five movies scripted by NRI writer Farrukh Dhondy which are being screened at the 58th annual Cannes Film Festival.
The other three films are 'Take Three Girls', 'Exitz' and 'American Day Light', Dhondy told PTI last night (May 14, 2005), adding "I expect Red Mercury and Aamir Khan-starrer The Rising to do extremely well at the Cannes."
"Red Mercury, a contemporary film presented by London-based 'Inspired Movies', is a thought-provoking exploration of the age of anxiety we live in, in the wake of the 9/11 attack" on America, Dhondy said.
He said it is a pacy, topical and controversial look at the reality behind the threat, as seen through the eyes of three confused, scared, young British Muslim men.
Though it was purely an imaginative plot in which the three youngsters make a frantic bid to acquire 'Red Mercury', a chemical required for producing a nuclear bomb, UK's "anti-terrorist police approached executive producer Peter Ansorge to find out how we came to know about the plot," Dhondy said.
According to the anti-terrorist police, they had arrested three boys who have been trying to lay their hands on 'Red Mercury' in the UK recently. "The three boys have been arrested and charged," the police said.
Meenu Bachan, executive producer of Inspired Movies described 'Red Mercury' as "one of the most controversial terrorist-linked political thrillers."
She said Red Mercury was produced by a cross-cultural team. Its technicians were from India, management from Britain and its sales were handled by Americans.
