I have never demanded any post in the party: Uma
Sunday, May 15 2005 13:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Returning to the national capital after her sojourn in the Amarkantak forest, senior BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) leader Uma Bharati today (May 15, 2005) said she had never demanded any post in the party and welcomed the appointment other detractor Shivraj Singh Chauhan as Madhya Pradesh State unit chief.

"I have never demanded any post in the party. I will prefer to die rather than ask for something. Anybody suggesting so is the biggest liar in the world," a sobered Bharati told reporters in New Delhi.

The former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, who is expected to meet party president L K Advani in the capital, said she had only sought some work in the party.

On the appointment of OBC leader and her known detractor Shivraj Singh Chauhan as the State unit president, she claimed it was done with her consent.

"It will enthuse the party and further strengthen it," she said.

Declining to comment on any further issue, Bharati said she had never discussed internal issues in public.

Bharati said she had not invited the press even at the November 10 meeting of the party's central office-bearers last year.

At that meeting, she had walked out after challenging Advani in full media glare leading to her suspension.

Bharati's return to the capital comes close on the heels of party General Secretary Arun Jaitley's statement that Advani had a "game-plan" to deal with her and she had written a letter to the party president on a "constructive note".

During her Amarkantak sojourn, she had taken pot-shots at Advani saying she had "ideological differences" with him.

Later Bharati retracted and said she had sent the child in her to the Himalayas and she would behave in a more mature manner.
