AIADMK retains Kancheepuram, Gummidipoondi

Chennai: The ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) today (May 16, 2005) retained both Kancheepuram and Gummidipoondi Assembly seats in the by-election held on May 14.

At Kancheepuram, the AIADMK nominee T Mythili won the seat by over 17,000 votes while AIADMK's K S Vijyakumar won the Gummidipoondi seat by more than 27,000 votes.

The by-elections were necessitated due to the death of AIADMK's S S Thirunavukkarassu at Kancheepuram and K Sudarsanam in Gummidipoondi.
