Congress president election to be held on June 9

New Delhi: Election for the post of Congress President will be held on June 9, 2005.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the Congress Working Committee in New Delhi, AICC (All India Congress Committee) General Secretary Ambika Soni told reporters.

Filing of nominations will begin from May 25 and the last date is May 27, she said adding that scrutiny will be held the same day while the last date for withdrawal is June 3, 2005.

Election, if necessary, for the post of Congress chief will be held on June 9 and the counting of votes as well as declaration of results will be done the same day, Soni said.

As per the party constitution, organisational polls are held every three years to elect its Chief, 12 Congress Working Committee Members of the total 24 (12 are nominated), PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) chiefs, over 1100 AICC delegates from all over the country as also over 9,000 PCC delegates by Bloc Level Congress Committees.

A Plenary session was likely to be convened after the completion of the organisational polls to elect 12 CWC members.
