'Left parties absence will not spoil the occasion' Monday, May 16 2005 15:39 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Congress president and United Progressive Alliance (UPA) chairperson Sonia Gandhi today (May 16, 2005) said that Left parties' reported decision to stay away from the alliance's birthday bash would not spoil the occasion.
"I don't think so", Gandhi said that when asked whether the reported decision by the Left parties, who are supporting the UPA Government from outside, will be a spoilsport.
Gandhi was speaking to reporters after a marathon four-and-half hour meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC) to review the performance of the UPA Government, which is completing one year in office on May 22.
The UPA chairperson said that there will be a UPA-Left Coordination Committee meeting on May 18 and "we are looking forward to exchanging views on everything".
Gandhi congratulated Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his colleagues in Government for "satisfactory" performance during one year of rule.
"The CWC met today (May 16, 2005), six day ahead of the UPA Government completing one year in office. We discussed all the issues. Prime Minister gave us details about the issues taken up during the period," Gandhi said.
She said at least 23-25 party leaders (CWC members, besides herself and the Prime Minister) spoke on the occasion and every body expressed satisfaction over the performance of the UPA Government.
