CWC meeting to take stock of political situation Monday, May 16 2005 11:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
The Congress Working Committee (CWC) is meeting in New Delhi today (May 16, 2005) to take stock of the political situation in the country and review the performance of the party-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government, which is completing one year in office on May 22.
"The CWC is meeting to take stock of the political situation and review the performance of the UPA Government in the light of its commitment in the National Common Minimum Programme (NCMP)," party sources said.
The CWC was also likely to take a view of the Budget Session of Parliament, which ended on acrimonious notes with Opposition National Democratic Alliance (NDA) boycotting it.
This is likely to be the last working Committee meeting of the present CWC, which would be reconstituted after completing the process of organisational polls.
Presided over by party chief Sonia Gandhi almost all the CWC members are expected to attend the meeting.
Another important agenda to be taken up by the CWC is finalisation of the schedule for elections to the Congress chief's post.
The meeting would be deciding a date and a schedule for elections to the Congress chief's post in the run up to the organisational polls, which is coming to an end on May 31.
CWC members, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Chief Ministers of the Congress-ruled States and Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leaders were among those attending the meeting at the Parliament House Annexe.
