Jammu:
Four militants were among seven persons killed in separate incidents in Jammu and Kashmir where Army troops foiled a major infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri district today (May 16, 2005), official sources said in Jammu.
A group of heavily armed militants entered into Bhimbergali area along the LoC in Rajouri district from Pakistan's Nikial area early today, the sources said.
The troops challenged the militants and in the ensuing gun battle, three ultras were killed, they said.
Three AK rifles, a pistol, seven magazines and some documents were recovered, they said adding that the operation was still on.
This was the fifth infiltration bid along the LoC in the State in the past three weeks in which 27 militants have been killed.
In another incident, two Special Police Officers (SPO) were killed at a marriage function in Doda district last night (May 15, 2005), Deputy Inspector General (Udhampur-Doda range), Satvir Gupta said.
The SPOs had gone to the function after escorting a councillor to Pathnazi area of Kishtwar tehsil of the district when militants fired on them, they said adding both were killed.
A militant and a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan were killed in an encounter between ultras and security forces in Damkund area of Udhampur district last night, the sources said adding an AK rifle, three magazines, 170 rounds and an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) were recovered from the spot.
