Plea for lodging of FIRs against Sonia rejected
Monday, May 16 2005 18:28 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court today (May 16, 2005) rejected a PIL seeking directives to lodge FIRs against Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, party MP Rahul Gandhi and Planning Commission Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia for allegedly violating the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act, 1976.

A division bench comprising Chief Justice A N Ray and Justice Jagadish Bhalla rejected the public interest litigation (PIL) on the ground that the petitioner instead of approaching the initial forum had approached the court, which was the last remedy.

The PIL had alleged that the above mentioned persons had violated the FCRA while receiving contribution for the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation of which they were office bearers.
