'Balanced policy' main achievement of HRD Ministry Tuesday, May 17 2005 14:18 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
As the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government completes one year in office, HRD Minister Arjun Singh today (May 17, 2005) said his Ministry's main achievement of following a "balanced policy" vis-a-vis educational curricula was because of cooperation from all quarters.
"We have been successful in achieving cooperation from all quarters. We were able to pursue a balanced policy, a policy that keeps in mind the needs of all sections of society," Singh told reporters here when asked about the achievements of his Ministry in the past one year.
"We have not taken any policy decisions that were unilateral. Whatever decisions were taken and policies followed, were all with cooperation and consultation with all quarters," he said on the sidelines of a national convention on Information and Communications Technology (ICT).
Asked about the changes made in the educational curricula as part of the "detoxification" programme initiated by his Ministry, Singh said, "These were not mere changes. They were major deviations from rigid ideologies."
