Seawater enters houses in TN village; people shifted

Nagercoil (TN): Seawater entered a coastal village in Kanyakumari District of Tamil Nadu following high tide tonight (May 17, 2005) inundating several houses and authorities shifted the residents to safer places, officials said.

The water had entered around 50 houses in Erayummanthurai, about 50 km from Nagercoil, and one house had been damaged, they said.

Police and revenue officials shifted the affected to safer places with the help of local people.

District Superintendent of Police Ramasubramoni and top revenue and other officials have rushed to the affected village.
