Army concerned over its personnel moving courts Wednesday, May 18 2005 17:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
New Delhi:
Concerned over several of its personnel approaching courts with their grievances, the Army has sent statistics to its formations showing that very few of those who move to the court on "flimsy grounds" have got relief.
"Our figures show that of those who have gone to civilian court for small things like transfers, very few have got relief as the courts have been with us," Chief of Army Staff
Gen J J Singh told reporters today (May 18, 2005) when asked about a DRDO official moving court after he was super ceded.
Singh was speaking after flagging off a mountaineering expedition by Garhwal Rifles Regiment to Mt Trishul in the Himalayas.
"We have distributed these statistics to all formations and these themselves will be a deterrent against approaching court on flimsy reasons," he said.
Singh, however, maintained that cases of Army officers going to civilian courts did not reflect any "indiscipline" among its ranks. "There is no reason to be concerned."
But he added that the Army wanted to give a "fair deal" to all and ensure aggrieved personnel did not have to seek the intervention of civilian justice system.
"We are also looking inward so that people do not have to go to courts," he said.
