New Delhi: With two more deaths reported due to suspected meningococcaemia in the capital the toll has gone up to 28 even as 10 people were admitted in various hospitals on account of the disease.

A three-year old boy died of the bacterial outbreak at Lady Hardinge Hospital in New Delhi while a 15-year old boy succumbed to the disease in Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital since yesterday (May 17, 2005), MCD's director of Hospital Administration Dr J N Banavaliker told reporters in New Delhi today (May 18).

On the deaths, despite availability of drugs and medicines in Government hospitals, he said "deaths, in majority of the cases, have occurred in those cases that were brought to the hospital in the last stages."

The cumulative figure of the people affected with the bacterial outbreak in the capital has touched 323, while majority of the cases are reported from densely populated areas, he said.

He said the disease, with increase in temperature, was showing a downward trend with lesser number of new cases being reported in the capital.
