Little help coming from UP Govt for Amethi: Rahul
Thursday, May 19 2005 08:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Amethi: Accepting the fact that not much help would be forthcoming from the Uttar Pradesh Government, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi yesterday (May 18, 2005) said he has chalked out an "alternate strategy" for development of Amethi with the Centre's assistance and the MP's area fund.

"I have come to accept that the State Government will not help much in the development of the constituency and have chalked out an alternative strategy," Rahul told reporters in Amethi after laying the foundation stone of 15 link roads.

With the Centre's assistance and the MP's local area fund, he would try to ensure all-round development, Rahul said.

"I am not interested in sitting back and evaluating why the State Government is not helping us in development of the area...rather, I will have to find a way out," he said.

Rahul said the Centre's cooperation has been of great help in the construction of roads, improvement of power supply and launching of education programmes.

"Centre ki madad se, in sab kshetron mein kaam ho raha hai (Work was being undertaken in all these areas with the assistance of the Centre)," he said.

On whether he was satisfied with the work done in the past one year that he has been MP, Rahul said he could "never be satisfied on this count" but work was being done.

"You cannot sit down and assess your own work, or give numbers to your performance," he said when asked to rate his performance on a scale of 1 to 10.

Rahul has been on regular tours of Amethi, regarded as the family bastion, holding meetings with party workers and the common people to get feedback on the development works.
