Meningococcaemia claims 1 more, 11 new cases

New Delhi: The bacterial outbreak meningococcaemia yesterday (May 19, 2005) claimed one more life taking the toll in the disease to 29 even as 11 new suspected cases were admitted in various hospitals in the capital.

A 25-year-old man, who was under treatment at Swami Dayanand Hospital in New Delhi, yesterday succumbed to the disease, MCD's Director of Hospital Administration Dr J N Banavaliker told reporters yesterday.

With 11 new cases of probable meningococcaemia, the cumulative figure of the people affected with the bacterial outbreak in New Delhi has touched 335, he said.

Banavaliker said with the increase in temperature, the disease was showing a downward trend with lesser number of new cases being reported in the capital.
