Resolve Kashmir during our tenure: Musharraf to PM Friday, May 20 2005 21:45 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf tonight (May 20, 2005) said a settlement of the Kashmir problem should be reached during his and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's tenure.
"We two are incidental leaders...This harmony exists between us today. We do not know what is the future of these two incidental leaders," he said addressing Parliamentarians and journalists from SAARC (South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation) countries in Islamabad.
Contending that one did not know whether this harmony would be there among future leaders of the two countries, he said, "Why leave it to doubt? I strongly believe if you are sincere about reaching final peace ....then it is reached between us two.
"I would be inclined to a real timeframe. However, in view of sensitivities on your side, practically one cannot strictly lay down in months and days. May be, that is difficult. But what I said does indicate some kind of a time frame," Musharraf said.
The Pakistan President said "it is much better and more possible" to resolve the Kashmir issue during the term of Singh and him. The timeframe is quite flexible. I leave this to anybody's imagination. But certainly, one thing is very clear that it cannot be indefinite".
