Six killed, one injured in thunderstorm in Kolkata

Kolkata: Six persons were killed after a thunderstorm hit Bankura, East Midnapore, Bardhaman and South 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal yesterday (May 19, 2005) evening.

Three persons were killed and another injured in a wall collapse at Chuaripara village in Bankura district, Superintendent of police Jayaraman.

The injured person was admitted to hospital.

One person was killed as a tree fell on him during storm at Purbasthali in Bardhaman district, police said.

Another was killed in lightning at Jagannathchalk village in Raidighi area of South 24 Parganas district during the squall, police said.

According to a report, quoting the police, from Haldia in East Midnapore district a person who was returning home from the market was killed after being struck by lightning at Khanchi village.
