Uma Bharti returns to politics on advice of guru
Friday, May 20 2005 07:56 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Udupi: Former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Uma Bharti yesterday (May 19, 2005) said that though she thought that politics was not her cup of tea she returned to politics on the advice her guru Sri Vishwesha Thirtha Swamiji of Udupi Pajevar Mutt.

Speaking at the 75th birth celebrations of the pontiff of Pejavar Mutt in Udupi she said that after resigning from the Chief Minister's post, she wanted to renounce politics and continue her social service activities as "sanyasi".

She said that her guru who gave her "Sanyasa Deeksha" who met her in Amar Kantak had advised her to not leave politics and carry out her fight against injustice against harm being done on our dharma and culture and corruption. The swamiji strongly advised not to leave "Karma Kshetra" and to continue her "Dharam" remaining as politician she said.

Uma clarified that however the media had wrongly misinterpreted her statement and swamiji's advice on her decision to remain in politics "as to avenge her political opponents". The swamiji advised her to continue her battle against all social evils like Arjun who remained in the battlefield on the advice by Lord Sri Krishna during Mahabharat War, she said.

Recalling her association with the Pejavar Seer she said that she and swamiji were totally different in nature. She was totally extrovert and some time even forgets Sanyasa Dharma, which was reminded and corrected by her guru with gentle words. He always advised her to serve poor and not to forget her Rajadharma. "Being a Sanyasi even today I don't know the 'abcd' of politics," she said.
