Too old to tango, we can clap for peace: Musharraf Saturday, May 21 2005 09:54 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
It takes two tango but if the couple are too old for that they can at least clap together, Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during his recent visit to Delhi while holding talks to resolve Kashmir issue.
"I told Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that in Urdu they say that you can clap with two hands. In English, they say it needs two to tango. I told him that we two may be too old for tango but we can clap together."
"The hand of Pakistan is available," Musharraf said at a meeting South Asian Parliamentarians in Islamabad yesterday (May 20, 2005).
While referring to recent initiatives on the India-Pak peace front, he said he and Singh have complete harmony and understanding.
"To the credit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and myself, we have an understanding and harmony between ourselves. This is the big difference between now and the past," said Musharraf.
"This is a fleeting movement. We must seize it for sake of future of South Asia, especially for the future of India and Pakistan," he said.
In his usual banter, Musharraf likened India and Pakistan as two elephants trampling grass in South Asia whether they were fighting war or making love.
"When elephants fight and make the grass gets trampled," he said amid peals of laughter from the audience.
Musharraf yesterday addressed the concluding session of the six-day conference of Parliamentarians organised by South Asia Free Media Association. Thirty-three MPs from India took part in the meeting.
