'Musharraf making unilateral suggestions on JK' Saturday, May 21 2005 20:36 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Islamabad:
Accusing President Pervez Musharraf of making "unilateral suggestions" about resolution of the Kashmir issue, former Pakistan Premier Benazir Bhutto-led Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has charged that he was "offering concessions" to India without taking into consideration the opinion of Kashmiris or elected Parliament.
Flaying Musharraf for his remarks at the conference of South Asian parliamentarians last night (May 20, 2005) that solution to the Kashmir issue cannot be on religious basis due to Indian sensitivity towards its secular credentials, the PPP said, " He makes unilateral suggestions about resolution of the problem without reference to people of Kashmir or elected Parliament."
"We believe that such a unilateral announcement will not advance the cause of finding a solution to Kashmir," PPP spokesman Senator Faratullah Babar said.
In the recent past, proposals have been announced from Musharraf's side like seven-point formula to resolve the Kashmir issue, for which India has not responded, he said.
"He (Musharraf) is offering concessions without preparations and without taking into consideration the opinion of Kashmiris and Parliament. The issue is not merit or demerit of certain proposal but the issue is how and when such a proposal is advanced," Babar said.
