Ornaments from 18th century, says museum curator Saturday, May 21 2005 16:30 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Sirsa (Haryana):
The gold and silver ornaments found in a village in Sirsa have been authenticated as belonging to the 18th century by archaeologists from the Shri Krishna Museum in Kurukshetra.
Museum Curator Rajesh Purohit and its Lecturer Guide Rajinder Singh Rana said the collection of ornaments would have been made during the early British period, after examining them yesterday (May 20, 2005).
Two brothers, Harmit Singh and Rajinder Singh, stumbled into the collection of trinkets when a dilapidated wall was being brought down in Suchan village in the Sirsa district last week.
The collection of gold and silver ornaments includes a pair of 'phoo karan', nine big bangles, three 'karaas', two 'jhanjars', two small "payals", two 'kangans' and a 'surmedaani'.
They brought their find to the notice of the deputy commissioner who then summoned the experts from the museum.
