Fishermen in the coastal villages of Kanyakumari district were vacating their villages and moving to safer places in the wake of high tides in the sea for the second day today (May 21, 2005).
People from about 12 villages were moving away from their homes in the fear of seawater entering their homes, official sources said.
Yesterday (May 20, 2005) seawater had partially submerged around 10 coastal villages in the district due to high tides.
A team headed by district the District Revenue Officer was monitoring the situation, the sources said.
Speaking to reporter's last night district collector Sunil Paliwal said the State Government had sanctioned Rs 2.19 crore for anti sea erosion wall in the district.
