'Rajiv Gandhi Foundation rates Guj as best State'

Indore: Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) in its report has rated Gujarat as the best State in the country in terms of development, administration, curbing corruption, security to the people and social harmony among others and is "an eye opener for the Gujarat baiters including Congress and the Communists," BJP (Bhartiya Janata Party) vice president M Venkaiah Naidu said in Indore today (May 22, 2005).

"RGF headed by Sonia Gandhi has come out with a report which has rated Gujarat as best in terms of development, social harmony, administration, curbing corruption and security to the people," Naidu told reporters after a party function.

The report was published in the 'Economic Times' newspaper, he said adding, "it will prove be an eye-opener for the Gujarat baiters specially Congress and Communist party leaders."

Referring to the political situation in Bihar, he said that the mandate was against RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) and Laloo Prasad Yadav and the BJP has backed Nitish Kumar as Chief Ministerial candidate.

On the suggestion of Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh with regard to transfer of collectors once in three years, Naidu said that under the same Prime Minister only two district magistrates were removed from their post in Bihar.

He alleged that it was Laloo Yadav who was running the show in Bihar under the President's rule.

Earlier, addressing the BJP's active workers conference, he said that recently when he was asked to describe the UPA (United Progressive Alliance) Government in one-liner, he said "it is a one step forward, three step backward with situation awkward." type of Government.

Naidu said despite BJP is against appeasement policy and is an advocate of common civil code, against illegal migrants from Bangladesh and common population policy for all religions.

The religious conversion is also a big issue he said, alleging that huge amount of money is routed in the country through foreign agencies for the purpose.

Advising BJP leaders in the State indirectly to shun their differences, he asked them to remain "indoor" while working in Madhya Pradesh and remain "outdoor" in rest of India to play their role of effective Opposition.

The function was also addressed by the former Union Minister, Sumitra Mahajan and MP PWD Minister, Kailash Vijaywargiya.

Mahajan criticised Congress for describing BJP as "irresponsible Opposition party," while forgetting the role played by them (Congress), when they were in Opposition.
