Stepping up their activities, the naxalites today (May 23, 2005) killed one Station House Officer (SHO) and five security personnel, including four para-military forces and seriously injured seven policemen in two separate incidents.
Also in series of incidents, the naxalites land mined a private vehicle and fired indiscriminately at a private bus.
The SHO of Mainpat Augustus Kujur received bullet in his chest and arm when he was chasing a group of naxalites in Dhadkeshraa village of Sarguja district, Sarguja range inspector general of police A N Upadhyaya said.
The maoists fired at Kujur when he directed them to lay arms, Upadhyaya said.
The naxalites also carried out a series of incidents in Bastar region and triggered multiple landmine blasts killing four CRPF jawans and one district police driver and seriously injured seven CRPF jawans when their convoy was passing through Jangla area of Dantewada district, Bastar range Inspector General of police Giridhari Nayak said.
The injured policemen have been evacuated from the encounter site by a military helicopter, which has been pressed into service to combat naxalism in the State and are admitted to local hospital in regional headquarters of bastar at Jagdalpur, police officials said.
