Mumbai: The special court conducting the Best bakery re-trial will visit Vadodara to inspect the site where a violent crowd had attacked and killed 14 persons on the night of March 1, 2002 during the post-Godhra riots.

Defence lawyer D S Jambaulikar told sources in Mumbai that the court will first visit the site on the evening on May 26 in order to assess the night time scenario of the bakery and then it will again visit bakery the next morning.

The bakery was attacked twice on March 1, 2002 night and the next day early morning, according to prosecution.

The Defence had moved a similar application at the beginning of trial but the court had then said that it would visit the site during trial in case a need for same arises.

The Defence moved the application last week and said that a visit by the court to the site would allow the court in understanding the scene and would help in providing "fair justice."

Altogether, 72 witnesses have been re-examined till now during the re-trial.
