India & Russia should market Brahmos, says Kalam Tuesday, May 24 2005 20:52 Hrs (IST) - World Time -
Moscow:
India and Russia should aggressively market the Brahmos cruise missile jointly developed by them, President A P J Abdul Kalam today (May 24, 2005) said.
"This is a unique missile and there is no such missile in the world as of today and there is a great demand in the world market for such a missile and we should aggressively market it," Kalam, who is on a four-day visit to Russia, said after visiting the NPOM facility outside Moscow in Reutovo.
NPOM is the Russian partner in a joint venture with DRDO, which was set up in 1999.
This was Kalam's fourth visit to NPOM, which had designed the world's first nuclear cruise missile for the earstwhile Soviet Navy.
Kalam warmly interacted with his former Russian colleague. "Our friendship is based on rocket technology and this Brahmos joint venture has opened a new way for the Indo-Russian cooperation," he said.
Kalam, who spent an hour at the NPOM, visited some of the highly-guarded facilities of the Russian missile factory where the media was not allowed.
Brahmos' successful trials have been completed and its serial production has begun.
