180 nomination papers to be filed behalf of Sonia
Tuesday, May 24 2005 22:20 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: A total of 180 sets of nomination papers, including one proposed by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and seconded by other senior Ministers and CWC Members, would be filed tomorrow (May 25, 2005) on behalf of Sonia Gandhi for next month's election of Congress Chief's post.

"As many as 180 sets of nominations from across the country will be filed tomorrow on behalf of Gandhi for the June 9, 2005 election of Congress Chief's post", Party sources told PTI tonight (May 24, 2005).

Of the total 180 sets, one set (with ten proposers and equal number of seconders) will be proposed by the Prime Minister and seconded by Defence Minister Pranab Mukherjee and other senior Ministers and CWC members and AICC (All India Congress Committee) office bearers, they said.

The remaining nominations are being proposed and seconded by PCC (Pradesh Congress Committee) chiefs and senior party leaders from States.

Though Gandhi's election is a forgone conclusion, elections, if necessary, will be held on June 9, 2005.

May 27 is the last date for nomination and June 3, 2005 is the deadline for withdrawal.
