I acted in accordance with Constitution: Buta Singh
Wednesday, May 25 2005 18:03 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

Patna: Under fire from the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) on the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly, Governor Buta Singh today (May 25, 2005) said he acted in accordance with the Constitution and would initiate action against those involved in horse-trading of MLAs on receipt of specific complaints.

"I recommended the dissolution of the State Assembly after taking into consideration all the legal aspects, including Supreme Court judgements and the Sarkaria Commission report on Centre-State relations.

Spotlight: Bihar Elections

"The NDA leaders are free to move court against my decision but I am sure that I have not erred (in recommending the dissolution of the house) as I had definite information about horse trading of the worst kind to form a Government in Bihar," he told a press conference in Patna.

Singh said he would initiate action against those involved in the horse-trading of the legislators if specific complaints were received by him.

"I do not want to react to their diatribe," the Governor said referring to the remarks of NDA leaders on the dissolution of Bihar Assembly.

Even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has justified the dissolution of the Bihar Assembly by saying the Centre was left with no choice but to recommend the dissolution of the house due to large scale-horse trading, he said.

In reply to a query, he said the FIR into last year's multi-crore flood relief scam would be filed in a day or two.
