NDA steps up offensive against UPA on Bihar issue
Wednesday, May 25 2005 10:59 Hrs (IST) - World Time -

New Delhi: Stepping up its offensive on the Bihar issue, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) will today (May 25, 2005) move the Election Commission (EC) protesting against, what it described as, United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government's "attempts to interfere" in the democratic process.

A high-power NDA delegation led by its Chief Ministerial candidate Nitish Kumar would also demand early polls in the State during a meeting with the Election Commission, NDA sources said.

Janata Dal United (JDU) Parliamentary party chairman Sharad Yadav, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and BJP General Secretary Arun Jaitley would be the other members of the delegation, they said.

The Opposition alliance has taken exception to Union Law Minister H R Bhardwaj's statement yesterday (May 24, 2005) that the earliest the polls could be held in the State was in September.
