Sports Minister Sunil Dutt cremated in Mumbai

Mumbai: The mortal remains of veteran actor and Union Sports Minister Sunil Dutt, who died in Mumbai today (May 25, 2005) following a heart attack, were consigned to flames at a suburban crematorium this evening amidst chanting of vedic hymns.

Dutt's actor son Sanjay Dutt lit the funeral pyre at the Shashtrinagar crematorium in Santa Cruz.

Many political leader and the entire film industry along with the people from all walks of life were among the thousands of mourners who gathered at the crematorium to pay their last respects to 'Duttsaab', as he was popularly known.

BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president L K Advani, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh, Union Ministers Prithviraj Chavan, Vilas Muttemwar, Priyaranjan Das Munshi, AICC (All India Congress Committee) leader Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni, Margaret Alva, Ashok Gehlot and Digvijay Singh alongwith MRCC chief Gurudas Kamat, MPs Murli Deora, Navin Jindal and former Minister Shatrughna Sinha were among those who attended the funeral.

Actors Amitabh Bachchan, Firoz Khan, Shashi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, film producer Bharat Shah and musician Kalyanji were also present at the funeral.
