Indian Air Force (IAF) Flying Officer Anjali Gupta, who is facing General Court Martial (GCM) proceedings, is undergoing a medical check-up including a psychiatric evaluation to rule out suicidal tendencies, the military court was told today (May 26, 2005).
"The doctors panel has been constituted, and investigations are on," IAF prosecuting officer Wg Cdr R K Dubey informed the GCM.
The panel would include medical specialists, service psychiatrists and a lady psychiatrist from the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in Bangalore, he had said on Tuesday (May 24, 2005).
IAF administration has arranged the medical check-up in response to her representation seeking release from close arrest. In a letter to the Karnataka Commission for Women, Anjali had stated that she was on the verge of taking her life.
Wg Cdr Dubey informed the GCM today that he does not know when the (medical and psychiatric) tests would be completed, and sought time till Monday (May 30, 2005).
GCM asked the prosecutor to furnish an update on Anjali's health and the time frame needed to complete the tests, if she cannot be produced on that day. Hearing was adjourned to Monday.
Twenty-eight-year-old Anjali Gupta, currently posted at the Aircraft Systems and Testing Establishment in Bangalore, has been arraigned on seven charges of indiscipline, insubordination and financial irregularities.
