The health scenario in India, especially the status of HIV/AIDS, came under discussion between visiting former US President Bill Clinton and Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss yesterday (May 25, 2005).
Clinton appreciated the efforts taken by the Government on awareness creation as well as the treatment of AIDS patients through Anti-Retroviral Treatment (ART), according to a press release.
Conveying his gratitude to the visiting dignitary for the support of Clinton Foundation in aiding National Aids Control (NACO), Union Health Minister informed Clinton that the spread of the disease had slowed down in the country as per the latest estimates carried out by NACO.
Giving the details of the estimate, Ramadoss said that the number of HIV cases in India in 2004 had gone up by 28,000 from 5.106 million in 2003 to 5.134 million in 2004.
